Hampshire Girls Youth Football League Saturday, 15th September
In their debut game as Downton FC, the girls forced great early pressure from the whistle, first a shot by Olive and then Eleanor to rattle the opposition.
The game settled, Olive having a great shot which is equally well saved, the keeper preventing it from going into the top right corner. A battle between this pair was established, with Olive having several attempts at goal but thwarted by a quick tactical brain that often saw the Cowes' keeper way out of her box in order to intercept several through balls.
Olive was supported brilliantly by Florrie and Bella, who had a very busy game in particular, demonstrating real tenacity at times and producing some meaningful crosses whilst Chloe played like a warrior.
The midfield was sometimes bossed by Milly who was industrious and no-one reached the ball before speedy Lilly who charged about the pitch tirelessly.
Molly played as if she was a locked door without a key and also presented some real challenges for the opposition going forward while Izzy A defended solidly, with Emily having a blinder of a game.
In goal Izzy was flawless, producing a sublime save that might be the best of the season and Bella B, Poppy and Ruby all made a positive impact when they came on.
The goal eventually came and, on balance, it was well deserved. A great cross in from the skipper and Bella S thumping it home.
Eliska led the way throughout the game, taking the only free kick and the corners and was a real force to be reckoned with.
A very well done from all at the club to the girls on winning their first game as a Downton team.
